Interactive TVAn increasing number of TV Stations across the world are transmitting Interactive Applications with their TV Programming. Several different platforms are being used today. Interactive Services were pioneered in the UK and Germany with the inception of Teletext (Videotext).Expanding on the limited interactivity of Teletext, the UK spearheaded the development of MHEG-5, which is sometimes referred to as Digital Teletext. Another platform is MHP, the Multimedia Home Platform, which is based on Java TV and adopted portions of the DAVIC and HAVi specifications. A second part to the MHP specification is based on HTML. The Japanese ARIB developed a separate platform, BML, which is based on HTML. An updated version of the BML standard is based on MHP. In the United States, the OCAP standard (a.k.a. tru2way) is also based on MHP, making the MHP platform most commonly used around the world. | ![]() |
